Bodrum

Merhaba,

We are anchored in a bay in the town of Torba, about 10 miles from Bodrum. Today we took a bus into Bodrum. We walked around the marina and toured the Castle of St. Peter. The castle was built in 1406 by the Knights of St. John, it has 5 towers that were all built by different nationalities. The Castle has had a long history, from a castle housing varies armies to a prison in the 1800's. The numerous towers of the castle were built by The English, Spanish, French, and Italian. There are many ancient artifacts dating back to 1st century BC. It's located right on the coast line of The Aegean Sea and there are numerous artifacts collected from ship wrecks close by. The underwater treasures were located accidentally by sponge divers. Many of the Amphora or pottery earthenware jars and pots were used to transport oil, wine and dry foods in ancient times. The pointed bases allowed for upright storage in layers. It's so hard to believe they've survived intact for thousands of years.

We have been traveling up the coast and have anchored in various bays along the way. Kuruca, Datca, Gumusluk, Turgutreis, Yalikavk, Dudogan, Turk Bu Ku, and currently Torba. We plan to leave tomorrow continuing up the Ionian coast in the Aegean Sea.

Still enjoying the cruising lifestyle!!!
