Fubar 2013...Preparations... Inventory... and Planning...

We are in full swing preparing for our next adventure, www.Fubar2013.com

If you're curious about our cruising plans, and would like to follow our progress. this is a great website.  www.marinetraffic.com

Our AIS ( Automatic Identification System ) will be activated continually during our travels. Currently our metal boat house prevents the signal from being transmitted. While under way the signal will be visible. We have the sending and receiving unit. It's interesting to verify who is coming at you on our overnight passages. Unfortunately the vessels you are most interesting/curious in identifying don't use this system...

The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is an automatic tracking system used on ships and by vessel traffic service for identifying and locating vessels by electronically exchanging data with other nearby ships AIS base stations, and satellites. When satellites are used to detect AIS signatures then the term Satellite-AIS (S-AIS)is used. AIS information supplements marine radar, which continues to be the primary method of collision avoidance for water transport.

Our shake down cruise around Vancouver Island this summer enabled us to verify what we needed to stock in the way of spare parts. Our inventory completely fills up many of those valuable cubby holes, I may need a map to find everything... The systems on Anna Mae are all in working order and we feel comfortable with the changes we've  made.

I have been following James and Jennifer Hamilton's blog www.blog.mvdirona.com
They are a huge inspiration! Maybe some day... The South Pacific will be in my plans. I don't know if I am as adventurous or brave enough to make the long crossings required, but truly admire them and appreciate that they share their experiences.

Our scheduled departure date to start south weather pending is October 17th. I will keep you posted.
