Cappadocia Turkey
We are tied up at The Alayna Marina on the Saltydawg in Alayna Turkey, having a wonderful time. On Sunday the 15th, we enjoyed watching all of the boats arrive that are sailing in the EMYR (East Mediterranean Yacht Rally). We had originally planned on joining the rally, but with the conditions in this area of the world, decided to join the rally only as far a Cyprus. If you look up the website for the EMYR you will see the route it is taking. On Monday the 16th we joined an excursion with members of the rally for a trip to Cappadocia. Cappadocia is located in central Turkey. Millions of years ago, lava from the volcanoes of Erciyes to the west covered the region to form what is now known as Cappadocia. In 1965 excavation was done to reveal a nine to ten thousand year old Neolithic settlement. The area is amazing and so much history to see, it's almost to much to take in. We went to the fairy chimneys in Pasabaglan and The church of Mother Mary in Goreme. We had a memorable time, it was a lot to see in two days. We really enjoyed it. We also went to The Guray Sermlk Pottery Museum. The Museum is in a cave, that has been a working business for 800 years! I was lucky enough to be chosen (with help for my wonderful husband) to throw a pot on a kick wheel. I think I was set up though...
