The Cities
Priene, Mylus, Herakleia, Melitus.
Around the ancient gulf stood a number of great Ionian cites, including the greatest of them all, Miletus. Silting was taking place in ancient times and is not a modern phenomenon. Strabo tells us that the channel to the harbor at Priene had to be kept dredged in his day. It should be remembered that the largest ships of this period drew little more than a meter or two.
We have been enjoying this area so much! The culture, climate, people can't get much better than this!!!
