Yesterday we pulled into a small bay in the town of Kiyikislacik. We have been so impressed with the ruins in this town. The name of the ruins are IASOS, and date back to the IV century BC. In all of the information posted it indicates that the city was built and then rebuilt many times depending on the inhabitants at the various times in history that ruled the area.

As we walked through IASOS, we where so surprised and amazed at how much there was to see. We had the whole mountain to ourselves! Much of the ruins are very well preserved, although most of the marble and antiquities have been pilfered over the years. The majority of the marble was moved to Constantinople or Istanbul, to be used in other various building sites over the past several thousand years.

We walked up and down the stairs of the amphitheater, discovered several intricate mosaic murals that are out in the elements throughout the hillside, and beautiful ancient arches of various sizes. Many of the ruins that we have been to have security, and pathways to follow along. Not at IASOS, it's as if it has been forgotten and just waiting there to be discovered.

You have to understand that the ruins are strewn over a large hillside, and also throughout the current city of Kiyikislacik. Many of the ruin walls, archways and pedestals, are incorporated into the homes and gardens. It's unbelievable!
