Teos Ruins

The Teos Ruins were originally built in the 2nd Century BC. Through the centuries the various inhabitants have added to the many temples, amphitheaters, etc. We hiked the area, walking through fields that have not yet been excavated and have goats, cows, and horses grazing on them. The Ruins have roads, and homes built on portions of the site, using some of the stonework in their fencing, and foundations. In 1924 a French archeologist started the excavation of the site. It's so strange to be walking through an area of the ruins that is not excavated yet and see a huge carved marble column wedged between an old olive tree and a current day out building. Very little has been completed. It's a huge jigsaw puzzle, and a true Indiana Jones experience...
