On the water heading south

We have had a fairly uneventful trip so far. The weather is cooperating nicely. The only mechanical issues this far have been corrected. The muffin fans that cool our diode packs came from the shop wired backwards, therefore the temperature on the diode pack was 175  F before we got the fans working and 115 F after the wiring was corrected. This was caught thanks to Lugger Bob and his heat gun.

We also had our 20KW generator putting out steam when we fired it up. Meaning that there wasn't enough sea water circulation. Our sea water sea chest ball valve malfunctioned and was stuck about 1/8th open. I feel so fortunate to have such a mechanical husband along with Bob Senter on board.

We have seen a few whales in the distance and Springday had dolphins on their bow.

We currently are tied up to the dock in Crescent City CA. Our last few hours traveling south was rather bumpy. There was a lot of wind chop and blustery winds from the west that made the ride a tiny bit uncomfortable. We plan to wait out a weather system that is forecasted to blow threw this evening into tomorrow.

I refuse to travel through Cape Mendocino unless all the bad weather has passed. When returning from Mexico a couple of years ago I would have killed Bill in that area if I hadn't needed him to get me through that stretch of coastline. Our weather router, Omni Bob has advised us on weather conditions this trip, and so far he has been absolutely correct in his predictions.

  1. I started following you on Marine Traffic yesterday as you were headed to Crescent City. Looks like you're staying there for a while. Be safe!
