Bahia de Navidad

Our 30nm run from Tenacatita last thursday brought us to The Bahia de Navidad or "Barra" as the locals call it. Melaque, another small town is to the north. They are separated by two miles of beautiful sandy beaches and turquoise blue water.

We are at The Grand Bay Resort Marina, very comfortable and upscale. The marina is located at the end of a peninsula. We take a water taxi to town at the cost of 20pesos per person round trip.

The marina/town has been busy the past few days with a fishing tournament. We enjoyed the festivities on the malecon yesterday as they weighed in their catch of the day. Huge marlin, sailfish, tuna and dorado, the smell was amazing... Everyone participated in the fun. After the fish had been filleted out the locals brought out their big spoons and scrapped the remaining meat off of the bones, nothing went to waste. The concrete area that was used to fillet the fish ran red by the time all the fish had been cleaned.
