June 28, 2010
well, we have been on the water for two weeks now. We are as far north as Klemtu, A native fishing village off of Finlayson Channel in BC. We have been enjoying our travels. I have been learning the boat more each day. I understand and for the most part can manage the Nobeltec navigation chart system. The generators are not a total mystery to me anymore and I can start both the main engine and the wing engine to use the hydraulics, bow thrusters, etc. When the sindlass starts I make sure I have one eye on the depth sounder and the other on Bill to put the engine in gear if need be, Bill is a very patient teacher. I haven't enjoyed the few bouts of sea sickness that the rough water can cause, but they are far and few between. Yesterday we had dolphins on our bow for about 30 minutes, they swam back and forth and flipped and twirled at the bow, it was so much fun to watch them. They move so fast and effortlessly it is amazing. There were about a dozen of them and one very large one that I am sure was the male. He kept them all in line and darted back and forth when he felt the need. Later in the day we saw a whale in the distance spout several times and dive down with just his tail waving good bye as he cove under water. I have been trying to get a picture of and eagle, they seem to be everywhere, but I swear they see me coming and turn there tail feathers to me. Today I did get some shots at a juvenile with a dark head, and one older white headed eagle, drying off in a tree. We plan to anchor a Khutze Inlet tonight, one of our favorite places. The skies are cloudy today, but the scenery is still beautiful. We are having a great time, each day brings something new.
